Review: Super 7 Thundercats Ultimates Lion-O

As those of us that watched ThunderCats as children start to hit our 40’s, you might say that the window for this particular fandom is starting to close. That may be true, but thankfully that hasn’t stopped Super 7 from releasing a new ThunderCats collection for our old asses. With several waves announced throughout 2020, the ThunderCats Ultimate Collection has been delayed multiple times by the global pandemic. Now, after nearly a year between the time that I placed my preorder and receiving it, I can thankfully say that the wait was worth it.

My childhood obsession with ThunderCats was pretty intense. Of the original LJN produced line, I had Lion-O, Cheetara, Tygra, Jaga, Panthro, Snarf, Mumm-Ra, and Tuska Warrior—which is such a random inclusion. I’d load them all up into my ThunderTank and they would be part of this expanded universe that included Silverhawks, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Dick Tracy, and Ghostbusters. As I got older, that collection was somehow lost, but Super 7 has announced most of the ones that I listed–not holding my breath for a Tuska Warrior, though.

Whenever I see a ThunderCats figure, I feel like I have to buy it. The last one that I got was this Bandai Lion-O that I got from a hobby store a few years back. At the time, I looked at that Bandai figure and was blown away by the 18-points of articulation and the attention to detail. Now look at it compared to the Super 7 ThunderCats Ultimate figure. It looks silly. The detailing in the ThunderCats Ultimate Lion-O is simply unbelievable. Look at the hair. Check out the detailing in the sword and claw shield. It’s majestic. It could cure any ED issues that we elderly ThunderCat fans may experience here in the twilight of our lives.  

The Thundercats Ultimate figures are more than the title of Super 7’s line, these are the ultimate Thundercats figures.
