That Uncharted Movie Has a Rough First Trailer

It feels like this Uncharted movie has been in development for over a decade at this point. Now that it finally has a trailer, there’s a lot to digest.

  • Firstly, it’s a poorly made trailer. In the span of 147 seconds, you’re introduced to a character and also see them double cross the protagonist. Then, in the highlight of the trailer, you see Nathan Drake stuck to falling cargo, him jumping from skid to skid, and, finally, securely get back into the aircraft. That seems like a very questionable decision.
  • I wasn’t sold on Tom Holland as Nathan Drake before this and I’m even less certain afterwards. This isn’t a diss to Holland himself, he’s a likable lad, he’s just not the Nathan Drake that we all know and love.
  • Wahlberg as Sully feels like even less of a fit.
  • However, I do like that inclusion of a lot of references to the Uncharted video games series.
  • Finally, so many directors have signed on and walked away from this project that I must have missed that Ruben Fleischer was the one that finally got this thing going. I think that’s the single most encouraging development from all this. This isn’t a great trailer, but Ruben’s shown a knack for getting the most out of movies.
